Stressed makes Desserts!

34 "I want to make cookies."

"Pway a yittle bit yonger, den make cookies", he suggested. Um, ok. I thought that by making cookies, he would feel loved. Apparently he feels more loved when I sit down on the floor and let him drive matchbox cars into my legs.

"Why you toenails purple?"
"Member when we went to da zoo? Yets go again!"
"What's dat sound?"

Dear friends, I have no idea what sound he was talking about.
I sighed, "I don't know. What do YOU think that sound is?"

"I NOT THINK! YOU THINK!"

It was time to make cookies.

"Can you make cookies in my woom?"
Um, no. Your plastic oven won't cut it dude.

Why do I only have unsalted butter? Why did I buy it in the first place? And it's FROZEN. One time I made the mistake of buying bulk butter at Costco without reading the package. I came home with solid bars of butter instead of cubes. It took every ounce of math that I could muster to convert those suckers to a manageable measurement. Always read the package before purchasing something!

An hour passes. The butter sits in the mixer, waiting to be whipped up into a delightful creamy sugar blend. I turn on the mixer, and sugar and butter chunks fly into the air. My mixer groans. My mixer hates me. What kind of idiot tries to mix frozen butter? (I thought it was thawed out, really! I'm so sorry mixer!)

When did I run out of eggs?

Sometimes a trip to the store can keep you from tears.

We found the eggs, and we looked at toys for a while. My son likes to push the buttons on any toy he can reach, which is fine with me as long as he doesn't fuss and whine. He wasn't being fussy or whiny. I was feeling generous. I bought him a small matchbox car that I later realized changes colors in water. I mentioned this to him, wanting him to be impressed by his mother's generosity. Remember how I said to read packages before purchasing them? Read packages! And if they say something that might cause your life to become more difficult, keep it to yourself.

We spent a lot of time when we got home making the car change colors. It's GREEN! No, it's BLUE! GREEN! NOW BLUE! Finally we settled on a color to take to bed with us. Oh wait, no, we will just DIE if the car isn't a different color before bed. I laid down the law. The car and the boy are both lying in bed. I think they are asleep.

So, I made my cookies. It only took three hours.

side note: if you want the recipe it's on the back of the chocolate chip package. That's just how I roll.

I just burned half of the cookies. I forgot to set the timer. I mean, I set it, I just didn't start it. They turned black shortly after this picture.

Sometimes life is exhausting. You don't have the right answers, you don't have the right toenail polish, and you don't even have the right ingredients. But guess what? You can still have a cookie by the end of the day.

"From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another" John 1:16

Today I'm linking up with Chatting in the Sky to pause and consider the gift of today.
