Portraits of an Existence (including an Elephant)

unbeing dead isn't being alive. ~e.e. cummings

Often I walk through life in a fog. I ignore my very existence; the fact that I am breathing, the toenail, the snail, rain water in a pail, and Dr. Suess. I don't notice the abundant gifts of the everyday.

The sun shines and warms and lights us and we have no curiosity to know why this is so; but we ask the reason of all evil, of pain, and hunger, and mosquitoes and silly people. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

And then I start my list of gratitude, digging out the joy in the everyday. And then I see how abundant life is, and I realize that it is quite possible that there are more gifts in one golden hour of regular and everyday living than I can count. And then I find myself loved.

"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." -1 Thessalonians 5:18
