"I Shout For JOY!" (On A Regular Day)

34 "Mommy, can I go in the Forest?"

"Um, yeah sure."

"Mom, will you hold my hand so I don't get lost?"

"No."

"PLEASE Mom? I don't want to get lost in the Forest so I need you to hold my hand and walk with me in the Forest."

"Oh. Okay"

So I grab a little paw, still traced with baby chub, and we march off together to the three redwood trees on the side of the lawn.

When you are two, there can be forests in the suburbs.
I get really bored at home sometimes. I find no scope for the imagination in scrubbing floors or organizing cupboards. The other day I tried to get a game out of the hall cupboard, and they all fell on my head. I just left a deck of cards on the floor, because if you can close a door...plus, I hadn't had my coffee yet...

I look at my son and I see the world for what it really is. He sees forests in the well manicured places. Everywhere is wild. Everything is an adventure.

We collect rolly poly bugs in the setting sunlight.

He stands in his sandbox, wearing undies because he's already gone through three pairs of shorts, and three is the magic number where his mom quits trying to clothe him.

He looks intently at the ground, his feet start dancing, and he shouts in a singsong, "When I find a rolly poly bug I SHOUT for JOY! I SHOUT FOR JOY!"

And I look at him, half dressed, jumping for joy over insects and muse about the last time I shouted for joy, and inside my heart starts to sing along, shouting for joy over my little boy.

Today I'm linking up at Moms Without Blogs to record Conversations with my Kid and with My Life A Blog because she's so cute :)
